I have been cutting up some aluminum diamond plate about 3 16 thick and have tried the following methods.
Best way to cut diamond plate.
Make sure the plywood is larger than the steel plate you will be cutting.
Set the steel plate on top of the plywood.
Some of my cuts will be just to trim some off of the sides the whole way down the 4x8 sheet but other cuts will be angled so the piece looks like a rather large triangle shape.
This works amazing for things like diamond plate but i ve cut as thick as 4 aluminum had to cut it from both sides to get the blade deep enough and it worked just fine.
Place a piece of 3 4 inch thick plywood flat on the floor.
This is a handy trick for things that are too big for the band saw.
The fastest thing i have found so far is a skill saw with a wood.
Obviously the circular saw is great for straight cuts.
Not so much for.
Cutting 3 16 aluminum tread plate with our milwaukee metal cutting circular saw.
Using a circular saw to cut 1 4 sheet.
Jig saw or reciprocating saw.
When you do this you cut the amount of time it takes to clean and care for the material.
An aluminum diamond plate is basically a sheet of aluminum on which a recurring pattern of raised diamonds is embossed or stamped.
This will end up being used for a roof for our rat rod build.
Jig saw very slow and just doesn t work very well regardless of what blade i use grinder with a cut of wheel is even worse.
Due to its anti slip and cosmetically appealing texture the plate is extensively used in dance floors wall panels countertops floor mats and toolboxes.
